Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) are important to Nigeria's leather sector. These

businesses must strike a balance between innovation and sustainability in their operations if

they are to prosper and stay competitive. The degree to which SMEs in this sector, however,

adhere to these standards varies. In order to examine the effects of these practices across

various businesses, this study aims to tackle the research topic of assessing the degree of

innovation and sustainability practices in Nigerian leather SMEs. The research employs a

descriptive methodology. The evaluation of innovative and sustainable practices in terms of

product design, manufacturing procedures, sourcing, and environmental impact was made

easier by the descriptive technique. The study emphasises how government assistance, capacity-

building, and increased awareness are all necessary to foster innovation and sustainability in

Nigerian leather SMEs. In order to address customer needs for leather products that are

ethically sourced and environmentally sustainable, SMEs can gain a competitive edge in the

global market by striking a balance between innovation and sustainability.
